PBS News had a feature on these "findings" last night. I told my husband that the diet industry must be dancing in the streets with this "news" and that I was sure newsletters like yours would look at the truth behind the story. And here you are. Ta-da! Thank you!
I listened to the same feature in my podcasts - it was infuriating. Also very cathartic, as I kept shouting at my phone (I was home on my own 😊) as they made one ludicrous claim after another. I too am happy to read Ragen's sensible assessment.
I feel like swearing over this article. And I generally find the Guardian to be a quality news source. Ugh. The other thing that struck me… doctor of palliative care??? Imagine taking on the side effects and risks of GLP-1s at the end of life. WHAT?
Thank you for addressing this. It is so frustrating to see something like this on "real" news sites, but after the way NYT has gone nutso for GLPs nothing suprises me anymore.
Ugh. I had to block a doctor I otherwise really like/respect for making a video about this today. She summarized the study but also said something like “what if there was a drug that could reduce the chance of breast cancer by 30%?” And strongly implied that this deserves serious consideration. I think she ended with “what do you think ladies?”
