Ragen, thanks for your work. I don't know if you follow Atlantic, but they have had a number of articles about GLP-1 drugs. Sharing a link for this one which notes some of the particular hazards for older adults, including massive muscle loss. Would be interested to hear your comments on this.
I was about to comment on your other post--combined with the hope to get Medicare approval, this is utterly horrifying for older folks. Health disaster 🤦🏼♀️
All this data just makes me sick. (Of course, thank you as always for this breakdown of very complex topics!)
How many "me too" drugs are we going to get? This is such a cash cow, I can't help but think all the drug companies will jump on this bandwagon and stop working on treatments for ACTUAL diseases in order to cash in on anti-fatness.
Also from the Atlantic article - I was shocked to read about this: "The bipartisan Treat and Reduce Obesity Act, introduced in Congress last July, would allow Medicare to cover drug treatments for obesity among its roughly 50 million Part D enrollees above the age of 65."
Thanks for passing this along. They are also trying to get versions of this passed in each of the 50 states. I have several pieces that I'm working on about this -I just published one about the issues with Medicare coverage. The whole thing is awful.

older folks AND younger disabled folks on Medicare.
What a nightmare.
Yes, thank you for widening the effected. Too many folks 😞
Thank you very much for the link. The Atlantic usually doesn't let nonsubscribers read anything on their site.
Thank you for your thorough writing. It always grounds me in my body again.
Wonderful, incisive analysis. It's just sad there are so few "persuadeables."
