Why is the weight loss industry allowed to get away with this? If this is how drug trials are managed and reported, why should I trust any other medication prescribed by my physician? I'm asking these questions seriously. Thank you, Ragen, for all of your hard work.

Those are definitely serious questions and unfortunately it's not just the weight loss industry (though I would argue that they are particularly egregious offenders.) The book Bad Pharma is incredibly eye-opening around the issues with drug trials (though it's also phenomenally depressing, especially in that it was written 10 years ago and nothing has changed!)

This BS by the weight loss industry just infuriates me to no end. I feel so upset about the damage that has been and continues to be done for higher weight bodied people and anyone who is even in moderate to low weight are terrified of being fat and and engage in forced weight loss to look like models and actresses who are sure to have disordered eating. Keep fighting the good life saving fight y’all and thank you Ragan warrior Goddess!

It is simply awful how studies are conducted especially those involving body size but as you pointed out it is not limited to them. I'm curious about how the public health messaging and insurance play into the research as well. Also, you might of discussed this in part 1 and if so i'm sorry i can't remember it but has there been any discussion/research with regards to what organs metabolize these drugs and what impact they potentially have on them especially considering the high doses. I know there isn't any long-term data (as there should be) but is there any short term?

thanks for all the work you do in this area.

The side effects include risk to organ health including kidney disease, gallbladder disease, and pancreatitis as well as a risk of ileus - even with just the short-term data we have.

and why is that brought up more frequently when talking about people just taking these drugs??? it so often implied that it is w/o risk and only of benefit. And that is just the short-term data!

Thank you for covering this topic. And it’s very timely for me because I just began mounjaro for my T2 Diabetes on Sunday. I had a terrible time on ozempic a few years back but it did improve my a1c tremendously. So I agreed to go on mounjaro for that reason but I’m filled with anxiety about the side effects, including the weight loss.
